Brownfields Engineering
BROWNFIELDS ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS
From automation and engineering services such as draughting and plant layouts, to custom solution engineering software, 3D laser scanning and more – we transform the way you engineer.
We use our in-house developed software with 3D laser scanning and our mechanical, structural, and civil detailing expertise to ensure seamless detailing of piping and equipment in brownfields projects. We ensure efficient site-work by eliminating site-welding and re-work by bolting new steelwork to existing infrastructure. We also minimise re-engineering of structural steel, plate work and equipment units with automated pipe supports and customisable properties and fittings to suit project client needs.
Investigate alternative routings, retrofitting options or develop construction or deconstruction sequences to suit your requirements in our Brownfields Projects Solutions.
In brownfields projects, we can combine 3D Laser Scanning of an existing plant and model it accurately. Building a high-quality and accurate digital twin of an asset allows for informed change management, resulting in more advanced planning, faster execution and better reporting of changes.
PARAMATIC BROWNFIELDS ENGINEERING BENEFITS
- Clashes are identified at early design stages
- Objects can be effectively checked for compliance with relevant standards and tolerances
- Digital twin models can be developed based on point clouds – allows for a robust design approach for retrofitting
- Identify accurate interface points between existing assets and retrofit parts
- Less design time and costly rework
- Accurate modelling from 3D scans
- Reverse engineering of critical replacement parts or non-responsive OEM breakdown parts
- Quality control
- Analyse as-built condition of fabricated items before delivery
- As-built models for developing CAD and BIM documentation
- Reduces risk and danger in inaccessible areas

Paramatic successfully integrated our Piping Software Add-On for Tekla with a 3D laser-scanned model to develop the optimal routing of piping to a retrofit cyclone installation in an existing acid mine drainage (AMD) plant. Integrating our technologies solves engineering problems leading to faster, accurate and more efficient results.
3D Model of exisiting overland pipeline and topography with new tank, water treatment facility and pump station. Using our Paramatic Piping Add-on for Tekla with our 3D Laser Scanning Solutions, we successfully detailed the replacement piping of all hydraulic steel piping on a large mining excavator. Modelling, re-routing and placement of equipment and piping in existing plant infrastructure
ParaMatic's Brownfields Solutions incorporated plant modelling and placement of equipment and piping in existing plant infrastructure for the retrofitting and re-commission sequencing of an acid plant.
ParaMatic is all about efficiency. We understand that clients need seamless engineering of plant designs – especially in complicated brownfields projects. It’s important to incorporate practical solutions so that you don’t spend onerous hours onsite shop welding and retrofitting your plant.
Why not investigate alternative routings, retrofitting options or develop construction or deconstruction sequences to suit your requirements in brownfields projects? ParaMatic Brownfields Solutions detail precision and accuracy whilst reducing the risk of equipment and piping clashes.

BROWNFIELDS PROJECTS PORTFOLIO
FEATURED PROJECTS
De Hoop Nature Reserve, Western Cape, SA
The Whale Trail Staircase
Waterfall Estates, SA
The Precinct Luxury Apartments
The Western Cape Government required a uniquely engineered staircase to replace an old, dilapidated ladder system they had, ensuring the Whale Trail hikers can safely access the beach from the cliff in the mountain at Stilgat. ParaMatic captured a 3D scan of the cliff and engineered a bolt in, galvanized steel staircase, with natural wooden inserts to compliment the breathtaking scenery. In 2020, ParaMatic won the SAISC Steel Innovation and Sustainability Award for this project.
ParaMatic completed the design and detailing of the clubhouses and walkway between the clubhouse/gym at “The Precinct”, based in Waterfall. Johannesburg.
Using our 3D scanning, design and detailing abilities, we were able to, seamlessly generate the fabrication drawings for the off-site fabrication of the Walkway between the Clubhouse and Gym buildings and erect all structures without disturbing the natural landscape.
